Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan
Step 1: Complete your FAFSA form

Step 2: Complete Entrance Counseling
Entrance counseling ensures you understand the terms and conditions of your loan and your rights and responsibilities. Entrance Counseling takes about 30 minutes to complete and it must be completed in a single session.
Step 3: Complete the Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (MPN)
The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s).
Both Entrance Counseling and the MPN will ask you “school information.” Select “New Jersey” as the “School State” and “Middlesex College” as the “School Name.”
Step 4: Request a new loan via Self Service
Under “Financial Aid” select “Request a New Loan”:
The loan amount is based on enrollment, dependency status and years in college. The loan amount you requested may be divided into subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Please see the tables below for the loan limits.

Parent PLUS Loans
Step 1: Complete your FAFSA form

Step 2: Complete the PLUS Loan application
Parents can use this application to:
- request a Parent PLUS Loan;
- change the amount of a Parent PLUS Loan you previously requested;
- authorize how Middlesex College may use your Parent PLUS Loan funds to pay for educational expenses;
- designate who the College pays any credit balance to; and
- request deferment of repayment while the student is in school and for up to 6 months after.
The entire Parent PLUS Loan Application process must be completed in a single session. It takes approximately 20 minutes to apply for a parent PLUS loan.
Step 3: Request a new loan via Self Service
Under “Financial Aid” select “Request a New Loan”:
Step 4: Indicate that the loan is for the PLUS Loan only
In the “Comments” field, write “For PLUS Loan only”:
Step 5: Complete the Federal Parent PLUS Loan Request form
Parents should fill out and submit this form as an email attachment to faid@middlesexcc.edu.
This form can also be submitted in-person to Enrollment Services in West Hall, Edison campus, or at the New Brunswick or Perth Amboy centers.
