Are You Eligible for Financial Aid?
Financial aid packages determine what students actually pay for their education and should not be overlooked. Most Middlesex College students receive some or significant financial aid, which include federal and state grants, work study, and loans. There are different requirements for federal and state aid. So please make sure you apply for both.
Federal Financial Aid Requirements
To apply for federal student aid (federal grants, direct loans and federal work study), you’ll need to:
- Have a high school diploma or GED or high school equivalency,
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program,
- Have a valid Social Security number unless you are from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau,
- Sign certifying statements on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) stating that you are not in default on a federal student loan and do not owe a refund on a federal grant and you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes,
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress in college or career school, AND
- Have U.S. Citizenship, OR one of the following:
- a Green Card,
- an Arrival-Departure Record showing one of the following: Refugee, Asylum Granted, Parolee or Cuban-Haitian Entrant or the holder of a valid certification or eligibility letter from the Department of Health and Human Services showing a designation of Victim of Human Trafficking,
- a T-Visa
New Jersey Financial Aid Requirements
To receive state aid, you will need to fill out the New Jersey state application at the confirmation page of your FAFSA application; the link to the state financial aid application is usually available at the confirmation page of your FAFSA application. If you are applying online, select “Start your state application” to apply for New Jersey state-based aid.
Your New Jersey state aid eligibility will be determined after you submit the application. Additional forms/documents may be needed for New Jersey state aid.
