Your Financial Aid Application Starts Here

Step 1: Create Your FSA ID

Create your FSA ID to complete the FAFSA form.

(If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will also need to create an FSA ID.)

Tip: Keep your FSA ID in a safe place. The FSA ID is your key to open, sign, and correct your FAFSA application.

Notes:

• When completing the 2024–2025 FAFSA application, all contributors must also create an FSA ID. Determine who your contributor(s) is/are at studentaid.gov (Contributor Information List)

Step 2: Complete the FAFSA Form

Use the FAFSA form to apply for financial aid for college.

Tip: When you are asked to use the data retrieval tool to retrieve your tax return information from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to your FAFSA, please make sure the home address you input on the data retrieval form is the home address on your tax return.

Notes:

• The 2023–24 FAFSA (Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024) requires 2021 tax return information.
• The 2024–25 FAFSA (Fall 2024, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024) requires 2022 tax return information.

Step 3: Start Your State Application

On the “Confirmation” page after you submit your FAFSA form, look for a link to transfer your information into the NJ state student financial aid application.

Tips:

• Look for the link after you’ve submitted your FAFSA form—you will not be able to return to the “Confirmation” page later to access the link.
• If you are unable to find the link, you can find the NJ state financial aid application by visiting the Financial Aid Hub on hesaa.org.
