The College coordinates specialized counseling and auxiliary services to support students with disabilities. Services and reasonable accommodations are provided in keeping with the regulations and spirit of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. A variety of services may be accessed including liaison with faculty regarding classroom accommodations, adapted testing services, notetaking support, sign language interpreters, assistive technology, alternate format materials and other reasonable accommodations. Any decision regarding accommodations is based on a student’s request and supporting documentation through an interactive process.
Student’s Responsibilities
It is the student’s responsibility to self-identify and request services. We recommend that students plan ahead to allow for sufficient time for services to be coordinated. Please note that interpreter services require 6 to 8 weeks advance notice.
Steps For Getting Services
Apply for Services
The first step toward getting disability accommodations is to complete and submit the Disability Services Application, also known as the “Student Intake Form.” A completed form will help us better determine your needs.
Submit Appropriate Documentation
Requests for accommodations may require the submission of appropriate documentation, which should be directed to Disability Services, ED100, 732.906.2546 or to disabilityservices@middlesexcc.edu.
Students who received Special Education Services in High School may submit their classification records. If a student was classified they may submit copies of their Child Study Team records to include:
- 12th grade IEP
- Psychological Evaluation
- Educational Evaluation
Students who were not classified may submit documentation from a qualified professional. They may submit evaluation reports or their current treatment provider may complete a “Verification of Disability” form. This form may be completed by a treating physician, psychiatrist, psychologist or other licensed professional.

Services and Accommodations
The various services and academic accommodations are provided so that students have the opportunity to fully participate in the College’s academic community on a level playing field. The provision of accommodations does not ensure success but will ensure access.
Campus Accessibility
The Edison campus facility is accessible for students with mobility impairments and has Handicapped Parking close to the campus buildings in all campus lots. The College requires the NJ STATE placard and plates in order to park in designated handicapped spots. Prospective students are urged to visit campus to be certain it is compatible with their needs.
Classroom Accommodations
Students linked with Disability Services may request a “Letter of Accommodation” to give to their Professors, which defines reasonable accommodations. This letter serves as the communication medium to alert Professors of a student’s need for classroom accommodations. Disability Services updates these letters each semester. Students are responsible for the disclosure and submission of the letters to their Professors.
Adapted Computer Lab
The College has an extensive Adapted Computer Lab in JLC243 with state-of-the-art computer hardware and software to assist students with disabilities. The lab has a lab coordinator that may assist students in identifying assistive technology and at times loaning specific pieces of hardware and software. The lab offers a loan program for some specialized equipment. The College maintains membership in outside organizations to secure books in alternate format.
Adapted Testing Center
The College provides testing accommodations and proctoring services through the Testing Center. Adapted testing services are authorized through the accommodation process of Disability Services. The Adapted Testing Services is located in JLC229 and may be reached at 732.906.2547.
