Communication – Liberal Arts
The diverse, ever-changing 21st century workplace demands effective communication that takes form in a variety of ways and distributed through different mediums.
This program provides graduates a foundation for developing a powerful knowledge base and set of critical thinking skills they will use over the course of their professional careers.
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate competence in the preparation and presentation of messages with culturally diverse audiences.
- Utilize emerging technology to create, transmit, and received mediated messages.
- Describe the role of government regulation of communication, public and private, within the framework of a free society.
- Describe & critically analyze the impact of communication messages on past and present society.
- Prepare for transfer to four-year colleges and universities as Speech, Speech Communication or Communication majors.
Prerequisites
Students must demonstrate Algebra I competency before taking courses in the major. Algebra I competency may be verified with a passing score on the College’s placement test or by completing the appropriate class. Students must also have a grade of “C” or better in one year of high school laboratory science.
