The Accounting Program combines the study of business law, business organization and management, mathematics and economics, to establish a strong fundamental knowledge of the major functions of business and industry.
Accounting is a vital aspect of any business or organization that involves working with people almost as much as with financial records. Accountants not only collect and report financial data, but they also serve as the link between the data and the people who use it.
Graduates of the Program will be able to:
- Analyze financial transactions, prepare and post journal entries and construct a complete set of financial statements.
- Apply foundational knowledge of accounting principles to prepare management reports, projections, and budget analysis.
- Create written and computer-generated reports and documents using correct accounting terminology and references to current accounting pronouncements.
- Demonstrate ethical/professional responsibility in the analysis and reporting of business financial data.
Prerequisites
Students must demonstrate Algebra I competency before taking courses in the major. Algebra I competency may be verified with a passing score on the College’s placement test or by completing the appropriate class.
